●Tricarboxylic acid cycle
α-Ketoglutarate is an important metabolic intermediate in the microbial tricarboxylic acid cycle, and is a key node connecting intracellular carbon-nitrogen metabolism. Its position in the cycle is after isocitrate and before succinyl-CoA. At this site, anaplerosis can supplement this intermediate metabolite by producing α-ketoglutaric acid from the transamination of glutamate, and it can also be achieved by the action of glutamate dehydrogenase on glutamate.
